We are human beings and we could only serve justice to our fellow the human way, never the God way.

All actions have consequences. This is always what I believe. It is not “karma” for me but it is just how nature works. We always reap what we sow, they say. The yield or harvest however must not exceed what we have planted. There is this thing such as the limit or maximum. We could not go beyond.

I was a graduating student when our professor hired me as his research assistant. One particular morning, my father woke me up telling me that my professor and boss were downstairs. Still in my pajamas, I entertained my visitor. I was clueless yet of the reason why he was there. I only realized what was this all about when he knelt before me and pleaded not to continue our charges against him. I was his research assistant in a study and he thought being the leader of the group, I could decide for the other 11 people whom he exploited to channel project funds to his personal accounts by using our signatures. I told him I could not decide for the group. With the help of a lawyer provided by our university, we filed administrative charges against him. He could not teach ever again in our university.

“Who are you to play God with the life of a professor?” Some colleagues of his told me when they heard the news. I was surprised and at the same same time disgusted with the comments and reactions. The people who cultivated idealism in our minds were also the ones mocking us. I did not think that what we did was wrong. He deserved what he gets. We did not even give him the full extent of the law. We only asked for a public apology and his resignation. We did not filed any criminal charges.

During that time, we fully understood that the professor has a family and young kids. We know that charging him criminally with 12 counts could destroy some lives not only his. Being aware of this we decided to give him the punishment deserving of him. He did the crime within the academe and we thought that he should answer to the academe. Even if he could not return to our university, he could still find work in other institutions. And we thought, he could change for the better because of the experience.

It is difficult to play God. Yeah, I truly know that, but we can always provide justice in our human way. Let God serves his own justice. For us, let us just teach our fellow human and let them learn because it is only in learning that we could change.

this entry reminds me of an event during my fourth year in college wherein a professor collected fees for the subject (some kinda thesis making subject, literature etc) and that collected fees were inclusive of typing, printing, hardbounding.

and then she cant even show us the copies of the hardbound thesis proposal after we have submitted for the aforementioned typing etc etc.

then we decided to file complaint to the admin with the help of the student org. she even threatened us that she filed libel againts us. ahaha. i personally went to the law office of the city to check if there are any records of my name, because im graduating that time.

she was terminated from the university. Btw she was terminated too from the previous university she was in.

Pero do you know why people mention karma or bahala na ang Dyos sa kanya?

Because we doubt our own capacity to deliver justice both lawful and unlawful, thru this we admit how helpless most our circumstances could be.

And lastly, mentioning karma or God, gave us immeasurable license to think wickedly without the guilt.. we are all subconsciously aware ang mag-isip ng masama at katulad din ng paggawa ng masama.

Pero the brain is creative, we learned by incorporating age old "wisdom" or some divine providence we could walk away from our little crimes.
